Live Line Insulator Diagnostics
Suspension insulators on high-voltage transmission lines are subject to ageing, pollution, mechanical stress, and flashover damage. A single faulty disc insulator in a string can lead to the complete failure of the string β causing a downed transmission line, prolonged power outage, and serious hazard to personnel and the public.
CSR Impex performs live-line insulator testing using approved techniques on energised HV and EHV lines β from 33kV up to 765kV β without any interruption to power supply. Our experienced engineers have completed live-line testing projects for NTPC, state transmission utilities, and private power companies across India and Gulf countries.
Testing is conducted using resistive gradient methods, capacitive gradient detectors, or coordinated with corona/UV camera surveys to provide a comprehensive picture of insulator string health.

The Risks of Defective Insulators
Prevents Forced Outages
A single defective insulator string can collapse an entire transmission line span, causing unplanned outages affecting thousands of consumers for hours or days.
Zero Downtime Required
All testing is performed on energised, live lines β there is no need to de-energise, isolate or obtain outage permits for the line under test.
Environmental & Safety Risk
Downed transmission lines in populated or agricultural areas create serious safety hazards and long-lasting environmental damage.
Huge Cost Avoidance
Emergency line repair after insulator failure costs many times more than proactive testing and replacement during routine patrol or shutdown.
Extends Asset Life
Regular insulator testing informs targeted replacement programmes, maximising the life of healthy insulators while removing the few that are faulty.
Prioritised Maintenance Report
Insulator strings are graded by condition and risk level, allowing maintenance teams to plan selective replacement efficiently and cost-effectively.
